MLS player retires to enter priesthood

by Tony Baldwin on July 15th, 2008

This is not a headline that you see everyday. A Major League Soccer player has decided to retire and enter priesthood. Chase Hilgenbrinck, a former Clemson University standout, has stated the need to fulfill his spiritual needs.

Hilgenbrinck has already accepted the calling and will serve six years in a seminary in order to become a Roman Catholic priest. Like I said, this is not something you normally expect from professional athletes. However, Hilgenbrinck (26) has turned in his uniform to the New England Revolution for something a little more holy.
