Woody Hayes Would Have Never Put Up With This

by Albert Bianchi on September 26th, 2006

slap!.jpgJohn L. Smith, in an apparent attempt to deflect attention from his team’s annual tremendous collapse, has gone after Charlie Weis’ insinuation that an MSU player slapped him during a sideline scuffle. Weis stated in his post-game press conference that he was slapped at some point during the ruckus, but said it could have been one of his players in all the confusion following the late hit on Drew Stanton. John L. got defensive anyways.

“I’m gonna stick up for our guys, and they didn’t throw a punch in the whole deal,” Smith said. “I thought the call was wrong. You listen to some cock-and-bull story and you change it and now you make it a no-call after a kid gets hit like that out of bounds? That’s why I was upset.”

Of course, when the alleged assualt was a slap, saying that they never really threw a punch isn’t really the best defense. And if an MSU player did throw a punch, most likely they’d miss and fall on their face. That’s just how Sparty rolls.
