Opening Day 1, NCAA Tournament 0

I didn’t watch much of the NCAA Championship game. It was a re-run. Ohio State never beats Florida. I get it already. Joakim Noah annoys me, Thad Matta is ugly. No surprises there. Unless they were going to release Greg Oden’s birth certificate, it wasn’t worth watching. Thus, I didn’t.

Now opening day, now that was good television. Nothing too spectacular, but it was baseball, and it counted, so that was nice. Mariano Rivera struck out the side in the ninth; it’s nice to have something you can count on in this world. Josh Hamilton made his major league debut after his drugged, drunk, tattooed odyssey ended: best pinch-hit line-out I’ve ever seen. Curt Schilling blew; sometimes the world is just. All those things are pretty great, but here’s the main thing about last night. Greg Oden was a disappointment of a phenom, Felix Hernandez wasn’t.
