News From the Inevitable Future: NBA, David Stern To Hold “Real” Draft Lottery

June 5th, 2007; Boston, Massachusetts-
“It was just a practice lottery, it didn’t count for real.”
In a joint press conference today with Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers, David Stern announced that the NBA will hold another lottery to determine NBA draft order. Stern elaborated,
“Sure, we were more than happy with Portland and Seattle having the first two picks in the draft and therefore two of the most exciting young players in the NBA. I think Durant and Oden would be perfect fits in the Pacific Northwest. Unfortunately, it was a practice lottery. Practice lotteries don’t count, everybody knows this.”
Danny Ainge seemed really happy with the do-over.
“We’re ecstatic, we can’t wait for another shot. The practice lottery didn’t go as we had hoped, but that’s why it’s a practice lottery.”

Stern was sure the mollify his critics, stating clearly that this was in no way an attempt to ensure that the Celtics ended up with the top pick. “The Celtics will have to pick where this lottery puts them. No exceptions. Unless it’s another practice.”
