Freddy Adu Traded (Does He Even Play Yet?)
Freddy Adu — remember him? — has been traded from the D.C. United to Real Salt Lake. This begs the question: who thought it would be a good idea to name the MLS teams after famous soccer clubs from across the pond? Does anyone confuse Real Madrid with Real Salt Lake? And is it pronounced “ree-al” or “reel?” I’ve never heard anyone speak of Real Salt Lake, so it has never really come up. Anyways, Freddy Adu will now be disappointing in even great obscurity. Fantastic.
This is disappointing for American soccer. Our best hope was that Freddy was good enough to play in Europe. Now he’s in Utah? He’s worse than Michelle Wie.
