EPL Saturday: American Invasion

by The Fan's Attic on February 3rd, 2007

Fulham 2 – Newcastle 1:  American Brian McBride led the Fulham to victory over Newcastle.  The game was notable because four American field-players saw action in the match.  New to Newcastle on loan, Oguchi Onyewu made his massive presence known by clattering about Fulham’s attack, yet, he was fortunate to not be booked.  Other Americans in the match were Fulham’s Carlos Bocanegra and new signee Clint “Deuce” Dempsey.

Liverpool 0 – Everton 0: Everton thwarted ‘pool’s slim chance at catching Chelsea with the draw.

Aston Villa 1 – West Ham 0: Villa newcomer John Carew gave his new squad only its second win in 14 EPL matches.

Blackburn 2 – Sheffield United 1:  Morten Gamst Pedersen scored two, including the injury-time game winner, to gift Blackburn three points.

Charlton 0 – Chelsea 1:  The Blues struggled to get three points against relegation-bound Charlton.  Frank Lampard’s eighth goal in eight games sent Chelski on to victory.

Man City 0 – Reading 2: Leroy Lita scored two against his new England under-21 and Man City manager, Stuart Pearce.  Lita and Reading, in only its first EPL season, are eyeing a spot in the UEFA Cup.

Watford 0 – Bolton 1:  Nicolas Anelka plunged ever-struggling Watford deeper into the relegation zone.

Wigan 1 – Portsmouth 0: Lee McCulloch sent Wigan five points clear of the relegation zone with his second half strike.

Middlesbrough – Arsenal
