And to Think That in Some Countries These Dogs are Eaten
Ah, the doldrums of February, where I’m so starved for meaningful competition that I turn my lonely eyes to Madison Square Garden. No, not the Knicks, I said meaningful competition. Yes, that’s right, it’s the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Did you know there are three different types of dachshunds? I do now. Also, there’s a such thing as an otterhound. Yes, the Dog Show is both entertaining and educational. And now we all have a rooting interest, there’s a beagle with a shot at Best in Show. You may ask, why would I root for a beagle over any other breed. Well, because of Snoopy, that’s why. Also, beagles apparently look nothing like Snoopy. But still, the beagle is the only breed I know of that was a WWI flying ace. What, are you a fan of Kaiser Wilhelm? Of course not. Go Snoopy. (The dog’s name is actually Uno, which is also kind of adorable.) Day 2 airs tonight, including the Best in Show competition.
(Best in Show, the classic mockumentary from which the title and picture in the post derive, will disappointingly not be shown on Comedy Central. I thought they did that every year.)

Fred Willard is my hero. Or maybe it’s Jennifer Coolidge…
