Matt Ryan Decides That Playing Like Heisman Candidate for 2 and a Half Minutes is Enough, Is Correct

Also, the Virginia Tech coaching staff decided rushing three in the last two and half minutes was enough. They were incorrect.

VT’s defensive line was running over, around, and through BC’s offensive line the entire game. BC had no answer for Virginia Tech’s stacked overload rush. (The one where they took on of their defensive lineman, stacked him like a linebacker behind another defensive lineman, and stunted the hell out of the middle. Tech’s ends basically had one-on-one blocking on the edge because the BC interior lineman had to be constantly adjusting to the movement of Tech’s DTs.) Then, for the last couple drives, Virginia Tech decided to lay off a little bit. Because it made perfect sense for them to give Matt Ryan more time.

As ineffective as Ryan looked for the majority of the game, he certainly looked like a Heisman candidate — perhaps, Heisman front-runner — in the last two minutes. He was dancing around, buying time, and the last touchdown pass was a thing of beauty. Ryan was rolling to his left, twisted his body on the run and threw to the right corner the endzone to his running back who was behind the defense. It was a ridiculous display of arm strength. Things got even better for Matt Ryan (who may or may not be a Tom Clancy character) after that. On the sideline he unsuccessfully chest bumped his coach, knocking Jagodzinski to the ground. Then, as Virginia Tech was unsuccessfully trying to drive in the final seconds, ESPN showed him puking for what seemed like 10 seconds. The announcers didn’t notice. Later, ESPN cut back and Ryan was still dry-heaving, and the announcers got uncomfortably excited about it. It was fun. Boston College is almost certainly not the second best team in the nation, but hell, who really gives a damn? If LSU wanted to be in the top 2, they shouldn’t have lost to Auburn.
