You Are Not Allowed to Have Feel Good Stories
Rick Ankiel, ace-pitcher turned erratic-Knoblaucher turned power-hitter, is all that is right about baseball. He’s determined, if a little bit of a headcase. He’s an inspiration, never giving up on his dream of playing major league baseball. He had another stellar outing last night, knocking in 7 RBI. He’s truly what’s right with sports, an inspiration for…
Whatever, he’s white. No one’s going to care.
There have been a couple “defenses” for Ankiel. Some think that because he was still a pitcher at the time, it’s not as big of a deal. Others will point to the fact that HGH wasn’t banned by baseball at that point. Really, it doesn’t matter. Once again, repeat after me: Everyone’s doping, nobody cares. “This is the first I’ve heard of this,” Cardinals general manager Walt Jocketty told the Daily News. “If it’s true, obviously it would be very tragic, along with everything else we’ve had happen to us this year.”
Because this is just like when Josh Hancock killed himself driving drunk. Almost exactly.
