News From the Revisionist Past: A-Rod’s 500th Homer

I never thought I’d get to use this graphic again.

But thanks to Alex Rodriguez’s disgust for the space-time continuum, I once again have the opportunity to disgust the past, and how what you thought happened didn’t really happen like you think it did. Or maybe it did, but it might not.

As we know, Alex Rodriguez is poised to join the 500-HR club. (And what a club it is. A-Rod is getting full clubhouse access, no more simple pool membership for him!) But today the Yankees are making up a June 28th game against the Orioles, which means that any stats from today’s inning and a half are statistically from June 28th. Rodriguez is on-deck in that suspended game, so it is possible that he may hit his 493rd homer today, which would mean that yesterday he hit his 500th home run, and could possibly severely alter the past so that Alex Rodriguez never was born.

“It is a little unusual, when you consider the stats count in that game, even though the result has not been decided yet,” said Yankees manager Joe Torre. “Go figure that one out.”

Torre plans on carrying his roster card with him at all times during the make-up, just in case players names start fading away.
